TOP 4 REASONS WHY PEOPLE DONT BACKUP

  • I’m way too busy to back up
  • I can’t figure out how to do it
  • My computer is top of the line and has never failed
  • Sounds expensive

If you are one of these – stop lying to yourself. It does not have to be hard, just burn your data to a CD, a DVD or replicate it on an external harddrive.

For absolute peace of mind use an automated backup service at an off-site secure server.

So it is manifestly obvious that a data backup is easy, quick and cheap to execute. Any incurred cost may be considered a pittance compared to the emotional or fiscal toll should your data be corrupted or destroyed.

Regular backups ensure your most sensitive and essential information is safely stored and can be instantly accessed should your on-site copies be corrupted, lost, stolen or destroyed.

Say you do not do regular backups and you have a critical system crash… you lose everything and seemingly have no way to retrieve it.

It can be the worst thing to happen to a business.

A computer network that cannot operate, due to data corruption, for more than a couple of weeks will severly hamper the organisation’s operation and will result in a systemically corroding influence on the business.

In fact fifty percent of them will go out of business within five years.

For non business related data the results can be even more hurtful. There are photos, creative writing projects or other similar data.

It could be music you have created or downloaded.

It might be home movies. All up it equals the same thing, a complete loss of information that took time and effort to amass.

Never fear however, salvation can be found.

More often than not the data is recoverable with the skilled attention of a specialist.

Century IT Consultants in Perth, Western Australia is one such specialist.

CITC are experts in the field of data recovery and are ready to assist you in regaining your precious personal or business data.

BUYING A PHOTOCOPIER FOR A SMALL BUSINESS

Risk and return, cash flow, productivity and operating efficiencies – these are all big considerations when small businesses are making a capital investment in new office machines.

Ensuring that the equipment is appropriate for the required function is all –important and there are many other practical considerations. Fancy software or the latest multifunction copier may be very appealing – but are they right for your needs?. For a small business, a mistake can be very costly as margins are generally under pressure and resources are limited. And that’s all very well to say – but when management resources are often stretched to the limit, there isn’t always the luxury of time to do all the necessary research and groundwork.

So when it comes to purchasing a new copier, fax machine, printer, scanner etc – these few hints may help. Whilst every business has its own specific needs, taking the time to go through a structured, well-prepared process for capital investment is an investment in the well-being of any small or medium-sized enterprise.

    · Establish your current and future requirements . Does your photocopier have to be full colour or will black and white be sufficient? Some other issues to think about are copier speed, scan resolution, printing on both sides of the page, collating and paper handling etc.

    · Are you intending to produce your own high quality, full colour marketing collateral documents, sales presentations, etc?

    · Are you looking to save costs by doing more printing in-house?

    · Do you need the new machine to multitask? Some machines are said to be ‘multifunctional’ but they are actually only able to one task at a time, they can’t do several jobs concurrently.

    · What are your networking requirements and do you require the device to operate wirelessly?

    · Functionality is vital. Is it user-friendly, is much training required and how many people will need to be familiar with its operation?

    · Copy volume is an important consideration – think how much time is wasted by frustrated employees standing around a copier.

    · Maintenance and servicing requirements.

    · Does your small business need a document management solution? Software is available that enables files and data to be electronically organised and stored, which can be a very useful asset to a small business.

    · Printer and photocopier peripherals, eg ink cartridges.

Small businesses are usually pressed for space which brings into question some other aspects of office equipment namely noise levels (need minimal disturbance to people working close by), size, aesthetics (does it fit in with the office interior decorating etc). A leading Perth photocopiers supplier, Adscopiers, say that Samsung recently announced the evolution of the smallest and quietest multifunction laser printer in the world, with market research showing that the Samsung CLP-300 colour laser printer series was the best-seller in Australia in 2007.

The advance of technology has meant there is very little price difference between a stand-alone copier and a multifunction office device. When it comes to small businesses and office equipment, the right choice can be a key success factor in growing the business.

PERTH BUILDING RENOVATIONS CAN BE A REAL PAIN – FROM EXPOSURE TO HARMFUL LEAD DUST

Attention all Perth home renovators, DIY enthusiasts, builders and handymen (and handy women!)… you may be at risk.

Everyone knows about the dangers of working with asbestos, but another common household substance – lead – can be equally as risky. Exposure to lead can be harmful to your health, causing long-term problems.

Lead dust from the paint in older buildings is the most common source – so people working in the building industry, demolition and renovation of older homes and buildings can be at greater risk. Lead dust also affects everyone living in the home – including pets – with younger children and pregnant women at greater risk.

Older homes are more likely to have lead-based paint. Lead-based paint was common until the 1970s, and while it doesn’t pose a problem if it is intact, problems occur when buildings deteriorate. Lead dust can also be found in attics, cavity walls and under the floorboards, so the risk of contamination increases if people are renovating their home in ways that involve demolishing ceilings and cavity walls, adding another storey, putting in an attic ladder or intruding into the roof space eg installing a skylight.

Lead dust is also created when lead-based paint is dry scraped, sanded or heated up. Dust can also form when painted surfaces grind together, such as windows and window sills, old painted furniture etc. Some hardware stores in some areas do sell DIY testing kits, but when it comes to eliminating the problem, it’s best to call in the professionals and to use hazardous dust machines for lead dust extraction.

Painting over the hazard isn’t going to solve the problem. The problem has to be physically removed ie with a hazardous dust vacuum, so if you’re building, renovating or simply living in an older home, it’s best to call in the experts or make sure you have the proper equipment.

These hazardous dust machines are manufactured to extremely high safety standards, are tough and hard-wearing, lightweight yet vitually indestructible. They can be moved around easily and have special features that enable them to reach into confined areas such as inside a ceiling or roof.

The growing awareness of the risks of lead dust has led to increased demand for hazardous dust machines for lead, a Perth supplier claims – plus the machines are also used in a variety of other cleaning applications such as the building industry, pharmaceutical and chemical industries and hospitals. And on the subject of hospitals, it’s interesting to note that in Australia, in nearly all of the cases where children had been admitted to hospital for treatment for lead poisoning, the lead had come from dust during home renovations – news that every builder and parent should heed.

If this has given you food for thought, and you’re chewing on your lead pencil as you digest it…. don’t panic! There is no lead in ‘lead’ pencils – the black stuff is graphite and they’re totally safe. But the same may not be said for your home or your building project, so when it comes to cleaning up hazardous dust, make sure you do it properly.

    Guide To Bulk REO Investments

No generation in American history has ever experienced the number of foreclosures and defaulted mortgages as is happening now. But challenge always gives rise to opportunity, and opportunistic real estate investors are rising to the challenge.

Bulk REO Investing’ is the name of the new strategy, and it’s captured the attention of many well-heeled investors.

Foreclosures are at the heart of the Bulk REO business, so let’s consider the foreclosure process.

You can’t understand Bulk REO Investments without understanding the process of foreclosure.

When a home owner begins to miss payments on their mortgage, the lender begins to send late/overdue notices to the home owner. The lender directs the subsequent timing of the actual foreclosure proceedings. The ‘pre-foreclosure’ time starts with filing of foreclosure paperwork and concludes at public auction.

When a defaulted property is placed up for auction, the foreclosure process is completed. The lender regains ownership of the property if there are no buyers at auction. The property then receives the designation of being an ‘REO’ or the more formal name, ‘Real Estate Owned’.

Lenders usually try to unload their REO properties at close to retail price by listing their REO’s with a real estate broker. But as a consequence of the weak economy, lenders are frequently selling their REO properties far below their actual value. But the price of receiving such great pricing is the need to purchase multiple REO properties (a ‘package’) rather than individual properties.

The recession in the United States has yielded huge profits to real estate investors prepared to take advantage. The most successful Bulk REO Investors will have a well-respected source of funding for their transactions. There are many sources of funding for these transasactions including: hard money and commercial financing, as well as non conventional sources such as hedge funds and private investors. Additionally, one man is becoming very well known in the field of bulk REO investing, and his name is Salvatore Buscemi of Dandrew Partners, a hedge fund in New York.

The Rewards of Fiber Optics Technology

How are homes are linked to the world is constantly advancing in a world where technology is ever-changing. Cable technology used to connect “us” together, but as fiber optic technology is pushing its way forward, it is steadily replacing copper wires as a means of communication signal transmission. The prime reason is that fiber optics provides more benefits than traditional copper wires and cables.

    1. Resistance to Interference. Since fiber optics is based from glass, it doesn’t conduct electricity, which in turn eliminates the need for grounding and makes it immune to electromagnetic interruption, even lightning. Not like copper cables, fiber optics works using light pulses, making it usable outdoors and in proximity to electrical cables.

    2. Security and Efficiency. Transmitting information with greater fidelity is possible with fiber optics’ “limitless bandwidth”. It can give more than 1,000 times as much bandwidth over distances more than 100 times farther copper wires. The result is a super-fast connection that runs in circles around the bandwidth alloted by cable connections. Also, since fiber optics is more difficult to tap than ordinary copper cables, it can provide extra data security.

    3. Low Maintenance. Fiber optics is not sensitive to water and chemicals since it is made of glass. Fiber optics almost runs no risk of being damaged by harsh elements, and can. This makes the cost of maintenance and service far lesser than its counterpart.

    4. Picture Quality. Compared to copper cables, the high-quality technology used in fiber optics is more powerful. Due to the lack of external interference, you get high-definition picture quality from fiber optics technology.

    5. Safety. It poses no threat of physical injuries in case fiber optic cables break. It transmits data through light rather than transmitting through electricity. Handlers run no risk of injury from fire, sparking or electrocution.

Considering that internet infrastructure is slowly making the transition to fiber optics technology such as ethernet converters instead of traditional copper cabling, the benefits of converting as soon as you can will surely be to your advantage. It’s good to know that fiber optics applications include manufacturing, process control, and supervisory contral and data acquisition. You will have the highest quaility data transmission available for your home phone, television and internet; not to mention, you will be on the cutting edge the moment you use transceiver modules.
